I first met Mike Baker (Communications Director) in 2010, whilst working for a training company down the corridor from TPSG. We quickly got chatting over many cups of tea and gradually, I got to know the rest of the team. What a great group of people they were and especially committed to what they were doing. I remember how excited everyone was when they obtained FCA approval, inviting me to join the celebration with a glass of champagne!
I was incredibly excited when Mike approached me to confirm that they were planning on expanding the team and asked if I’d be interested in joining them. Before I knew it, it was my first day in their new, now larger, offices; I had minimal pension experience but was raring to go. The rest as they say is history, a long history of development and amazing opportunities with a company unlike any other I had worked for before.
I joined as an Administration Assistant, working on SSASs, SIPPs and Exempt Property Unit Trusts, providing all aspects of support to the Directors, Managers and clients. The development opportunities and training were incredible, everyone was always so supportive and even though I was new to pensions, I never felt as though I was the ‘newbie’.
I thoroughly enjoyed my role and quickly felt part of an amazing team of professionals who did things just a little differently to the vast amount of pension providers out there, going above and beyond in assisting clients in all aspects of their retirement plans.
Over the next 7 years, I received various promotions and continued to build my knowledge across the range of services and products we offer, watching proudly as the company grew and I was able to pass my knowledge onto others. 2018 was the year when I approached the Directors about the CIPD Human Resources Diploma, as I came to realise my skills and my experience could be put to good use. They welcomed this opportunity with open arms as the timing was perfect given the growth of the company from 7 to almost 30 members of staff. 15 months on, after studying hard and becoming more involved with HR work within the company, I proudly passed my Level 3 Diploma in Human Resource Practice and shortly afterwards in June 2020, I became the HR Manager for both The Pension Solutions Group Limited and PSG SIPP Limited.
Little did I know back then that 10 years after joining the company and many pots of tea later, I would become the Company HR Manager. Whilst the HR Manager role is a challenging one, I am dedicated to working with the Managers to make TPSG and PSGS the same supportive and friendly place to work, as it was back when I first joined. As we continue to grow, encourage and develop our staff, I can honestly say that I thoroughly enjoy my job!
That just leaves me say I look forward to drinking copious amounts of tea with my colleagues again in the office very soon…. tea anyone?
